For some people, money may not be as big of a factor

when deciding whether to accept another position or remain in the current position. In some cases, other factors (i.e. love the area, child/children's school situation, proximity to family, etc.) may even be bigger factors than the salary associated with the job.

Kenny Brooks is 47 and according to his bio has 4 children (3 daughters and 1 son). I did find a .pdf file (Google search "Kenny Brooks was the unanimous choice for 2006 Coloni...") that talks briefly about his wife and 4 children at the very end. I am unsure of when it was created, so I am not sure if you have to add any years to the children's ages or not. In the .pdf file it does mention that his wife is a H'burg native and is a social studies teacher and basketball coach at the city's middle school. Also, I did find an article published in The Breeze (JMU's school paper) that talks about Georgetown approaching him about becoming their HC in 2012.

My point is that he and his family may be really entrenched in H'burg and that part of the Valley. If VT were to offer him $300K, then it is possible that JMU would be willing to match it so he could remain the HC. In the 14 years he has been the HC at JMU, he became the winningest HC in school's history (passing Sheila Moorman another beloved HC during most of her tenure). Since JMU has a somewhat rich tradition in women's basketball and started out as a women's college, the school may be willing to match most offers to keep him. Also, it is possible that he loves it so much there that he might be willing to take less money to continue being the HC at JMU. VT may be able to lure him away from JMU, but I wouldn't automatically assume it will be a slam dunk. VT may end up having to overpay him in order to keep JMU from potentially matching the offer.
